Dr. Chiawah is a passionate community leader and father in Maryland who is committed to providing opportunity, safety, and fairness for all residents of Prince George’s County. He was born in Cameroon, West Africa, as the third of six children. His father, John Chiawah, worked as a bookseller, while his mother was a middle school teacher. She had the rare opportunity to attend college in the 1970s, which inspired Tambei to pursue education with the same determination. Like most of his siblings, Tambei attended middle school at a Christian institution called Presbyterian Secondary School Mankon and completed high school at another Christian school, Cameroon Protestant College Bali.
Tambei arrived in the United States in January 2001, as an asylum seeker, fleeing political persecution. He made Maryland his home, settling in Adelphi, Greenbelt, and Laurel-and worked multiple jobs including as a cashier and armed security officer, while building the foundation for a better future. Tambei earned a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Bowie State University, a prominent HBCU, in 2005. He then began his professional career in public accounting as an auditor with Grant Thornton LLP in Baltimore. Over the years, he also worked with other firms, including Key & Associates, P.C., in Silver Spring, Maryland, and Regis & Associates, P.C., in Washington, D.C. Throughout his career in public accounting, Tambei served a variety of clients, such as the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), the Office of the Chief Financial Officer for the D.C. Government, and the International Broadcasting Bureau (Voice of America).
In 2012, he began his transition to public service roles within Prince George’s County. He initially joined the Office of Community Relations and later moved to the Office of Information Technology (OIT). He also worked as a Management Analyst for the District Department of Transportation (DDOT), where he focused on enhancing government services and community responsiveness. During this time, he pursued higher education, earning a Master of Business Administration (MBA) and a PhD in Leadership and Organizational Change Management. This achievement highlights his ability to balance multiple responsibilities, including serving the residents of District 23 and effectively representing them in Annapolis, all while leading a fulfilling life with his children.
Dr. Chiawah has been actively involved in his community, volunteering for the campaigns of numerous Democratic candidates. He has listened to voter concerns, made phone calls, canvassed to increase voter turnout, and distributed election materials at polling places. Notably, in 2010, Tambei was a member of the Staff Agency Transition Team for then-County Executive Rushern Baker, which proposed creating a certification program for businesses based in the county. Some of the candidates he has campaigned for and supported include Barack Obama, Martin O'Malley, Jolene Ivey, Rushern Baker, Glenn Ivey, Calvin Ball III, Aisha Braveboy, Wala Blegay, Anthony Brown, Donna Edwards, April Delaney, and Sydney Harrison. Outside of work, Tambei has volunteered as a soccer coach for the Marlboro Boys and Girls Club. He has been a member of the Brandywine Lions Club since 2010. This service organization helps those in need by providing guide dogs for the visually impaired or deaf, organizing blood drives, and offering eyeglasses programs to prevent blindness.
I am not running against any candidate; I am running for the future. I believe that District 23 deserves strong, compassionate leadership that listens, responds, and delivers. My name is Tambei, and my family and I reside in Marlton, Upper Marlboro. My life has been shaped by service, and as your State Delegate, I am dedicated to ensuring our community has the resources and opportunities it deserves. I understand the issues facing the residents of District 23, which is home to approximately 136,000 individuals, most of whom are working professionals concerned about job security in an evolving economy. For too long, we have focused on managing the problems of yesterday without adapting to new challenges and opportunities. We need fresh ideas and innovative tools to build a smarter Maryland. I am committed to introducing new ideas, particularly in STEM and artificial intelligence, to ensure that our residents are not left behind by automation. When I travel through Bowie, Mitchellville, Cheltenham, South Laurel, and Upper Marlboro, I don’t see people who want more of the same; I see a community eager to lead on both the state and national levels. I’m not here to offer you the same tired slogans; I’m running to provide a new vision for District 23, determined to make a meaningful difference in:
Retooling the workforce
Strengthening public schools
Expanding access to healthcare
Supporting seniors, small businesses, and job creation
Investing in youth mentorship programs and violence prevention
Improving transportation and infrastructure
Ensuring safe and vibrant communities.
Together, we can work towards improving outcomes for the residents of District 23.
Tambei understands how federal decisions impact Maryland families-especially seniors and vulnerable residents who depend on Medicaid and Medicare. He is the co-owner of a home care agency called Family and Friends Healthcare Inc. He is also the managing partner of Anchor Global Management Consulting, a professional consultancy firm. As the Trump administration and Senate Republicans ramp efforts to gut funding for Medicare and Medicaid, it is crucial to have a leader who understands the concerns of Marylanders. Tambei has worked closely with seniors and individuals with developmental disabilities for many years, guiding them on how to access care at home and applying for necessary resources. He listens to their concerns and needs, connecting them with available support. He is dedicated to fighting for your rights and will represent you in the Maryland General Assembly, advocating for legislation that supports a permanent extension of the ObamaCare tax credits. One of the main initiatives of his healthcare agency is a Community Support Program that provides assistance to seniors in care facilities who cannot afford necessary services, and this support is offered at no charge.
As the managing partner of a global management consulting firm that specializes in Change Management and Executive Coaching services, Tambei trains leaders in Emotional Intelligence and various Leadership Development Programs. He believes that these skills should be incorporated into youth programs to help build resilience and reduce violence.
